Student Tasks
Task 1 (Book Reviews):
Read a range of short stories and or novels by Paul Jennings. Choose books which are suitable for your reading level. Then use Microsoft word to report and reflect on the short story/novel. If you feel more comfortable writing your text first you can and then type it and edit as you need. You need to use the sub headings below and write/type using sentences and paragraphs:
1. Title:
Simply type the title of the short story or novel
2. Setting:
Describe the setting (approximately 3 sentences)
3. Characters: Describe the main characters in the short story or novel. You need to describe what the characters look like (their appearance) and their personality (approximately 3 sentences for each character).
4. Events:
Describe what happened in the short story or novel (approximately 5-8
sentences).
5. Personal Connections: Have you ever met anyone is real life who is like one of the characters in the short story or novel? If so, where and when? How are they similar? Or, have you ever been to a place which is similar to the setting of the short story or novel? If so, where, when and what was it like? Or, have you ever experienced a similar event to that which occurred in
the short story or novel? If so, when, what was it like? If you haven’t met anyone similar, experienced a similar setting or event maybe you could write about why you might like to experience a similar situation? Why would you? How
do you think you would feel?
6. Rating: If you had to rate the short story or novel out of 5 (5 being sensational and 0 being incredibly boring) what would you rate it? Give the short story or novel a rating and explain why you gave it the rating.
Task 2 (Upload) :
Post your book review on the Paul-Jennings-Author-Study 3EG Weebly.
Task 3 (Respond):
Read blog posts of other students. If you have read the same short story or chapter book you may like to comment on their blog post. Do you agree or disagree with their comments? Can you add any more information for them? Do you have a question for them? Remember to use our blogging rules and social etiquette on the Internet.
Due Dates:
Term 2, Week 8, 2013: You need to have uploaded two completed book review blog posts. I will check on your progress.
Term 2, week 10, 2013: Everyone should have responded to someones book review blog post.
NOTE: For the high fliers, you can create a book review blog post every time you finish reading a book by Paul Jennings! You can also respond to other book review blogs as much as you want!
